May Message From the Chair of the New Lawyer Division

Dear NLD,

We had a great time seeing everyone who attended our Cinco de Mayo Cooking Celebration earlier this month! We have event plans underway for the remainder of the calendar year, including our Court Practice Series which starts in August. We can’t wait to make more event announcements in the coming weeks.

For CLE credit and tips on effective written discovery, don’t forget to register for NLD’s upcoming CLE event on May 26 featuring past SDCBA president Monty McIntyre.

The SDCBA celebrates diversity within the legal profession and is proud to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. Be sure to read this month’s Tips from the Bench column featuring Justice Truc Do of the California Court of Appeal, who exemplifies the richness and perspective that individuals from diverse backgrounds bring to our legal profession.

We also hope you will attend the SDCBA’s annual Service Awards on May 21. One of our own NLD members, Maresa Martin Talbert, is the recipient of the SDCBA award for Outstanding Service as a New Lawyer. Read her story in this month’s For the Record NLD Member Spotlight.

Also included in the current For the Record edition are legal updates in the employment law field, tips for avoiding malpractice, and bar exam tips for July bar exam studiers.

We are always looking for new writers, which includes law students too! Anyone interested in submitting an article for our next For the Record edition should contact Editor-in-Chief Sara Gold at sara@eastmanip.com. And as always, be sure to reach out to NLD leadership with your questions, ideas, and suggestions.

Thank you for your continued support and readership, and we look forward to a great rest of the year with NLD.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Atkinson
