Message from NLD Community Outreach Co-Chair

By Dani Glazer Signaigo

Dear NLD members,

I’m excited to be writing this message as a co-chair of the NLD Community Outreach subcommittee of the New Lawyer Division (NLD) Executive Committee, with Claudia Salinas. If you’re not familiar, the Community Outreach team coordinates pro bono and volunteer events for new lawyers and law students across San Diego County.

As a quick introduction, I am a senior associate in the corporate department at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, PC. I work with startups, both in California and nationally, helping them get started, funded, and then sold.

Since I am in my seventh year of practice, this will be my last year in the NLD. I have loved my time here, and the NLD Executive Committee has been a fantastic team to work with. Events by the SDCBA, the NLD, and specifically our Community Outreach team, are great opportunities to get to know the community, provide services where they are needed, and network with peers and potential mentors.

Come join the NLD on October 26, 2023, at Mike Hess Brewing at Seaport Village for Trivia Night! The event is open to the public and starts at 7:00 p.m. We will get some tables near each other for the event so people can network and play fun trivia!

On November 21, 2023, there will be a live Tips from the Bench with Hon. Joel Wohlfeil. Judge Wohlfeil was recently interviewed by the NLD in the June 2023 edition of For the Record. See https://blawg401.com/tips-from-the-bench-hon-joel-r-wohlfeil/. He is also the judicial liaison for the NLD. More information on this event is to come, including how to register and attend!

Speaking of the newsletter, the current issue of For the Record includes a Tips from the Bench article featuring Hon. Blaine Bowman of the San Diego Superior Court – North Division. The article is an interesting read with photographs from Judge Bowman’s life “off” the bench.

In December the NLD will be hosting a blanket and sweater drive. More information on this event will be coming.

You can also learn about the debate over whether to raise the jurisdictional limit for a limited civil case from $25,000 to $35,000.

We encourage NLD members to participate actively in SDCBA events. While my role as a transactional attorney does not often (or ever) take me into a courtroom, I highly recommend this event to all of my litigation-focused colleagues — please take advantage of this excellent networking and learning opportunity.

Please feel free to reach out to any of the Executive Committee members and/or event hosts if you’d like to get more involved in NLD activities. We’re happy to be available as a resource for our members, and we welcome questions and suggestions. Specifically, if you have an idea for a pro bono or volunteer project that you would like the NLD to get involved with, please reach out to me at daniglazer@wsgr.com to share your thoughts! I would also welcome the chance to get to know my local colleagues better, so feel free to reach out just to chat or meet for coffee.

Additionally, please contact Co-Editors in Chief of For the Record, Matthew Spolsky and Linda Nelte, if you’d like to write an article for a future publication at Mspolsky@fwhb.com and linda.nelte@mmpph.com.

And finally, don’t forget to make sure you’re on our listserv, and follow us on LinkedIn for regular updates on events. Thanks for being an NLD member, and we look forward to seeing you at the next event!

Best,

Dani
