Message from the Vice Chair of the NLD

By Stephanie Pengilley
Bickel Sannipoli APC

Greeting NLD Members,

It is a pleasure to serve as your vice chair this year! I am excited to be a part of this year’s Executive Committee bringing NLD exciting and creative events to further new lawyers’ careers and provide opportunities. As vice chair I hope to provide ample opportunities for our members to get involved in the legal community, connect with experienced attorneys, and have the chance to give back.

A little bit about myself – I am a California native, USD School of Law grad, and Banana Slug undergrad. I am Senior Counsel at Bickel Sannipoli APC where I practice consumer warranty litigation. Practicing at a smaller firm has granted me the opportunity to go to trial and serve as my client’s lead trial counsel early on in my career.

This year NLD has hit the ground running. January was a success with NLD’s Pro Tips for Law Students on internships. For February, NLD is planning a recreational activity to bring its members together. Be on the lookout for further details about NLD’s hiking event that will be held at the end of the month.

NLD’s Court Practice Series is back again with a bang on March 15. Register today for a dynamic virtual presentation by Judge Katherine Bacal and Stacy Fode and learn the best practices and special issues specific to civil court practice. Free MCLE credit will be provided to SDCBA members in their first seven years of practice.

Congrats again to the new bar admittees. The SDCBA and NLD’s upcoming Law Student and Newly Admitted Attorney Reception has been postponed until April 2022. Further information to follow.

In the meantime, be sure to check out this month’s For the Record edition. Highlighting both sides of the criminal law aisle, this edition includes an NLD Member Spotlight featuring Deputy District Attorney Malak Behrouznami, and an article by Deputy Public Defender Yahairah Aristy, who is also vice chair of the SDCBA’s new Criminal Law Section. This month’s Tips from the Bar features Klinedinst CEO and SDCBA past president Heather Rosing, who was recently honored by the National Conference of Bar Presidents. In addition, sports fans can learn how the MLB’s collective bargaining negotiations could affect the future of the sport.

As an NLD member, follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn, and don’t forget to check out the member benefits available to all members of the SDCBA.
