Many Reasons Why I Joined the SDCBA’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Division

A sense of belonging is priceless. The DEI Division at the SDCBA has created a space for lawyers and the legal community to use their different perspectives and backgrounds to actively work against all forms of racism and discrimination within the legal profession and the justice system. Diversity not only fosters a sense of belonging and inclusivity, but also brings a wealth of perspectives and ideas that benefit the legal community as a whole.

It is encouraging to see the Division is actively working against racism and discrimination within the legal profession and the justice system, while promoting awareness, education, and collaboration in this regard. The Division has two Subdivisions: Programs & Events, and Outreach. Both Subdivisions are integral in achieving the Division’s mission.

The Programs and Events Subdivision focuses on education and awareness through initiatives like the Dialogue on Diversity series and Exchange on Equity Roundtables, and helps raise awareness and drive meaningful conversations about diversity-related issues. The Outreach Subdivision’s efforts to engage with local affinity bars and advocate for disability rights issues are equally important in creating a more inclusive legal community.

I have found that participating in the Division not only helps foster understanding and addresses the diverse challenges within the San Diego legal community, it also contributes to building a more inclusive Association.

I value the role the Division plays in promoting inclusivity within the San Diego legal community. If you would like to join the DEI Division and engage with diverse legal professionals that are working collectively towards common DEI goals, click here: https://www.sdcba.org/?pg=DEIDivision.
