BAR CENTER CLOSED AND STAFF WORKING REMOTELY THOUGH AT LEAST APRIL 3

Dear Members,

We have an important ask and a couple of updates. We look forward to your feedback so we can best serve you during this time of rapid change.

MEMBER SURVEY
First, to help us understand and meet your needs during the evolving situation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, please take this brief, 5-minute survey to provide your input.

RESOURCES, PROGRAMMING, AND SECTION LISTSERVS
We continue to provide timely Court Updates and Legal Community Updates via our website and social media channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter).

In addition, we continue to offer virtual opportunities to learn and connect:

Our Section listservs are active with discussions about the impact of COVID-19 on various areas of law. Our Sections are FREE to members. To join a section, visit “My Profile” to log in and join Sections. Some examples of the topical and robust Section conversations are:

  • Civil Litigation – How to handle contracts and whether performance under the contract can be excused based upon inability to perform during these times
  • Entertainment Law – How to handle sponsorship contracts with canceled sporting events
  • Estate Planning – How to handle notarizations of estate documents as CA still requires in-person notary vs. virtual notaries, as NY has recently implemented
  • Law & Medicine – How to handle access to healthcare and healthcare rights
  • Family Law – How to handle shared custody and supervised visitation with possibly infected parties

OPERATIONS UPDATE
Next week, we will review current government orders and public health guidance to determine a targeted date for re-opening the Bar Center and SDCBA offices. Until then, please know that we have adapted to the changing environment. Our staff continues to be available to members Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., our Lawyer Referral and Information Services program is fully operational and making referrals at a steady pace, our Committees are meeting virtually to work on projects to advance the SDCBA’s strategic goals, and we continue to focus on providing virtual experiences and resources to support our members.

We look forward to connecting in person as soon as possible. Until then, be well and please let us know how we can support you and your practice.
