Message From the Board

Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the June edition of For the Record. This month is filled with opportunities to reflect, celebrate, and connect as a community. My name is Catharine “Kate” McGlynn, and I am in my fourth year of practice. I have been involved with the New Lawyer Division since 2021 and this is my second year serving on the NLD Executive Committee as well as my second year serving as a Legal Education Co-Chair.
This year, as the NLD’s Legal Education Co-Chair, I am working hard to bring some great CLEs to our community with a specific focus on topics relevant to new lawyers.
Here are some highlights for June:
Pride Month: Honoring Diversity and Inclusion
June is Pride Month, a time to recognize and uplift the LGBTQ+ members of our legal community and beyond. Let’s celebrate the progress made toward equality and continue advocating for inclusion, visibility, and respect in our profession.
Juneteenth: Commemorating Freedom
We also observe Juneteenth, marking the end of slavery in the United States. This day invites us to reflect on the meaning of freedom, the ongoing pursuit of justice, and the importance of building a more equitable society for all. Community events throughout San Diego offer meaningful ways to honor this history and engage in the ongoing work of justice.
June 20: Take Your Dog to Work Day at the Bar Center
Looking for a way to unwind and connect? Join us on June 20 for Take Your Dog to Work Day at the SDCBA Bar Center. Bring your canine companions to 330 A Street for a day of networking, treats, and fun with fellow attorneys and their dogs. Whether you’re new to the Bar or a seasoned practitioner, this is a great chance to build community in a relaxed setting.
