Hi NLDers,
Happy August! I hope you all have found creative ways to beat the heat this summer. Personally, my family has been enjoying walking along the boardwalk and attempting to hike Cowles Mountain before it gets too hot. On our last attempt to forge Cowles, we only made it to the half mile marker. But, ya know, at least I don’t have any cheesey Netflix jokes for you this month!
I also want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our members who attended NLD’s Book Meet Up on August 13 discussing Robin DiAngelo’s White Fragility. We had a meaningful discussion about race and how we can all strive to be anti-racist. This month, I encourage all of our members to continue learning and to join me in the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit-Building Challenge©. Link to the challenge information and resources can be found here.
This month, NLD also said thank you to the heroes who participated in SDCBA’s Wills for Heroes program back in June. Every year, SDCBA administers San Diego Wills for Heroes program as an affiliate of the national Wills for Heroes Foundation. The Wills for Heroes Foundation was founded after the attacks on 9/11/2001, hence the inclusion of police officers. The Foundation serves and defines front line first responders (expanded in 2020 to include specific healthcare professionals) as: firefighters, paramedics, EMT/EMS professionals, police officers, correctional and probation officers, doctors, RNs, LPNs, PAs, CNAs, technicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, residents, interns, and medical students.
Also, we are still looking for volunteers to help plan our Signature Event (currently scheduled for some time in mid-October)! Every year, NLD hosts our Signature Event as a chance to get dressed up, sip a cocktail, and network. This year, our event is going to look a bit different because we’re going virtual, but we know it will still be fun and memorable. The best way to make this event awesome, is with ideas from you! So, if you would like to help plan this event, please contact either Stephanie Atkinson (steph.m.atkinson [at] gmail.com) or me (ssandler [at] thesandlerfirm.com). We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
As always, SDCBA and NLD are here for you. Make sure you’re following NLD on Facebook (formerly New Lawyers Forum)! You can always find the latest and greatest about what the Bar is offering there.
Best,
Stephanie A. Sandler
