Message from the Continuing Legal Education Chair of NLD

Hello all:

I am honored to serve on the New Lawyer Division (NLD) Executive Committee where I help organize continuing legal education presentations for new lawyers in San Diego area. I graduated from California Western School of Law in 2018 and I am Senior Counsel at Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani LLP. I am in my fifth year of practice.

The NLD Executive Committee members provide a variety of activities and resources for members throughout the year. Join us as we volunteer, earn CLE credits, and publish our monthly newsletter. As the Continuing Legal Education Chair, my role is to help new lawyers gain skills and expertise that are not taught through legal research, but through expertise from current judges and highly experienced practitioners.

On February 15, we were joined by The Honorable Chief Judge Dana Sabraw, United States District Judge for the Central District of California, for our annual Court Practice Series: Federal Courtroom Tips at the SDCBA Bar Center. Judge Sabraw discussed how we can be effective litigators in federal practice, including tips for pleadings and motion practice, and how to successfully meet and confer with opposing counsel. Judge Sabraw also kindly volunteered his time for a networking meet and greet mixer after the one-hour CLE.

We were honored to have a table at the SDCBA’s Welcome Reception for Law Students and Newly Admitted Attorneys on January 25 and enjoyed meeting all of you who attended. We are also excited to announce our summer events! On March 30, the SDCBA will host a Judicial Reception. Please mark this on your calendar, you do not want to miss it!

The current issue of For the Record includes a Tips from the Bench article featuring Judge Herbert Exarhos. You can also learn how to evaluate testamentary capacity and read the latest Legal Ethics for New Attorneys column.

The Executive Committee is always available as a resource for NLD members, so please reach out if you have any questions, suggestions, or just want to meet. We are also always looking for new CLE presentation ideas, so do not hesitate to email me at heathertdaiza@gmail.com.

For the Record publishes monthly: contact Co-Editors in Chief Matthew Spolsky and Linda Nelte if you’d like to write an article for a future publication at Mspolsky@fwhb.com and linda.nelte@mmpph.com.

Best,

Heather Daiza
