Message from the Vice Chair of the New Lawyer Division
Hi Everyone –
I hope you all enjoyed our Court Practice Series this week. It was great to learn from Chief Judge Margaret M. Mann about bankruptcy law and best practices. We’ll continue the Series next year!
Last week’s Breakouts with the Bench (Civil Law) was also a great SDCBA event. I’d like to thank all the judges that participated. It demonstrated that the San Diego legal community is committed to fostering the next generation of attorneys and improving our profession. I was fortunate to be in a Zoom breakout room with Presiding Judge Lorna A. Alksne and Judge Kevin A. Enright, who offered valuable advice on how to succeed as a new attorney and also discussed common mistakes to avoid. It was great to learn from the San Diego bench. There is no better experience as a new attorney.
Be sure to check out the current For the Record edition for the results from our recent survey on working at home versus in the office, and how this affects NLD members’ job satisfaction and productivity.
COVID-19 has made pro bono work more important than ever. Also be sure to read this month’s NLD Member Spotlight on Mallory Chase, a law firm partner as a sixth-year attorney and the woman behind many of For the Record’s Legal Ethics columns.

If you haven’t already, you still have the chance to vote for next year’s NLD leadership positions until 5 p.m. on October 21. Read the candidates’ statements and cast your vote here.
I’m excited to become Chair next year. NLD’s Executive Committee will continue to organize social events, educational programs, and community service opportunities.
