President’s Message: August 2, 2021

And just like that, it’s August! Today is the last day to submit your self nominations for both Committee appointments, as well as nominations for running for the Board. (They’re due by 5:00 p.m. – and yes, even if you’re seeing this in the afternoon, you can still get those in by the deadline.)

I decided to run for the SDCBA Board in 2016, right about the time I found out I was pregnant. Gabriel, my son, has since made appearances at Bar events, Committee meetings, and Board meetings alike. I feel very fortunate to be a part of a legal community that not only makes that possible, but makes me feel like it embraces my decision to be both mother and lawyer. I know this is markedly different from what may have been acceptable in the profession 20 years ago.

Change is good.

During my time on the Board, many things which are core to our organization have changed; we’ve seen turn-over in our staff, we’ve updated our strategic priorities, and we’ve welcomed what I believe is our most diverse board makeup in the history of the organization. These changes, and more, continue to shape the organization.

Today is my last effort (for this year, anyway!) to ask you to consider how you could help change the SDCBA for the better and for the future.

Click here to submit your self-nomination for the SDCBA Board of Directors, and here to self-nominate to serve on an SDCBA Committee.

Yours,

Renée N.G. Stackhouse
2021 SDCBA President
