Dear Members,
As we transition to another season enduring the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, we will continue to serve our members remotely and keep the physical office space and Bar Center closed. We believe this is necessary to safeguard the health and safety of the staff and membership.
Despite being apart, the SDCBA Board, staff, and volunteers have built a coherent and collaborative partnership, successfully advancing the Association’s mission: to connect lawyers and support their success and fulfillment. We continue to expand our resources and virtual programs to help you thrive in the current environment, including:
- Court updates and opportunities to interact with judicial officers at “Breakouts with the Bench” (the next one is Juvenile Law on September 9)
- Law practice management and technology how-to webinars
- Anti-Racism resources, including a recent webinar with Dr. Michele Bratcher Goodwin from the University of California-Irvine Law School: Race, Civil Liberties, and the Legal Profession and our current 21-Day Racial Equity Habit-Building Challenge and roundtable
- Resources for maintaining Wellness
- And coming up, the annual Bench-Bar-Media event on September 15 — Meeting This Moment: How The Bench, Bar, and Media are Addressing the Intersection of COVID-19 and the Social Justice Movement
Even during these difficult times, it is important to recognize the extraordinary goodness in our legal community. We hope you will join us at our reimagined, virtual Annual Awards Ceremony and Celebration of Community Service on September 30 at noon to recognize both this year’s recipients of the SDCBA Service Awards as well as the student winners of the 2020 Law Week Poster & Video Contest, aptly themed, “Your Voice, Your Vote, our Democracy: the 19th Amendment at 100.” (Make sure the students in your life submit an entry — the deadline is September 4.)
Thank you for your patience and support as the SDCBA turns today’s challenges into purpose — meeting this moment and meeting your needs.
And, as the school year starts back up this fall, we wish you and your families a safe and productive distance-learning experience.
Sincerely,
Jill Epstein
