While the California Stay-At-Home order has been lifted by Governor Newsom today, we expect San Diego to remain in the “Purple Tier.” This is the most restrictive tier, based on the widespread occurrence of COVID-19, and requires many non-essential businesses (like the SDCBA) to remain remote-only. Thus, our physical office and Bar Center will remain closed and staff will continue to work remotely. We consistently monitor the news and we look forward to the day we can all be together again.
In the meantime, we remain virtual and committed to connecting our members and supporting their success and fulfillment. The programming this week, especially, highlights that commitment at each step of your professional journey; from law student to lawyer to judge. For our law students we, along with many of our colleagues at San Diego Legal-Related Organizations, will welcome you to the legal community on Remo this Wednesday. For our lawyers, we will update you with the status of COVID-related business interruption insurance claims for your benefit and for your clients. And for those looking at the next step, we will partner with the Federal Bar Association to help you learn what you need to apply to be a U.S. District Judge.
Looking ahead, I am so impressed with the upcoming offering from the Wellness Subcommittee “Resilience as a Tool for Ensuring Ethical Compliance for Competency.” This hardworking committee has blended the best of wellness and lawyering to focus on competency. Why not spend an hour to learn how to represent your clients to the best of your ability while also finding your work joyful? When was the last time you used “joyful” to describe your vocation?
Google “joyful lawyer” and you will get a plethora of articles asking whether it is possible for lawyers to even be happy, and you’ll find related results like “being a lawyer is miserable” and “will I be happy as a lawyer.” I hope that wherever you are on the spectrum of feelings as it relates to your legal career that you know you have allies here at the Bar to help you navigate towards “joyful.”
