President’s Message: March 1, 2021
This morning, the realization that it has been a year — a year!! — since this pandemic started to change our lives hit hard.
When the world as we know it is stripped away and each day brings a new challenge, we are presented with the opportunity to decide who we really want to be and how we want to spend our time.
COVID-19 has managed to cross all boundaries, infecting all age groups, celebrities, socialites, and the highest ranking government officials in addition to traditionally vulnerable communities here and abroad.
After working for the firm for nearly six years, I was left with two choices: either work for another firm or work for myself. I chose the latter rather quickly after balancing the pros and cons.
As you likely are well aware, San Diego County continues to teeter on the edge of the most restrictive COVID-19 tier because of the adjusted case rate. Given our ongoing commitment to protecting our members and staff, and the continuing public health guidance for remote work where possible, we have decided to keep the physical space of the SDCBA closed for the remainder of the year.
The San Diego County Bar Association will continue to keep our physical space closed for the protection of our staff and members.
With statewide court closures and an economic recession to boot, the rugs underneath case theories and defenses were ripped out from under them without warning.
COVID-19 is undoubtedly a game changer for the practice of law, including international law. This disease seems to be staying here for the long run, and has already changed the way many of us are practicing.
